These communication tests
are all speech tests. They use spoken language tokens presented in a background
noise. The relative level of the speech compared to that of the noise is the
critical factor for the speech recognition scores. So, the outcomes of the
tests are fairly independent of presentation level and can be compared with the
known scores of normally-hearing listeners.
Three types of tests are considered. The first type uses digit triplets, the second type uses short, meaningful, sentences, and the third type uses short nonsense sentences.
These tests will be made available for professional use in a number
of languages. The triplet test will be made available in the languages
Dutch, German, English, Swedish, and French. The short sentence test
will be made available for the same languages. The nonsense sentence
test will be made available in the languages German, Swedish, English,
Dutch, French, Danish, and Polish.
