Speech communication tests

Development and evaluation of speech communication tests.

These communication tests are all speech tests. They use spoken language tokens presented in a background noise. The relative level of the speech compared to that of the noise is the critical factor for the speech recognition scores. So, the outcomes of the tests are fairly independent of presentation level and can be compared with the known scores of normally-hearing listeners.

Three types of tests are considered. The first type uses digit triplets, the second type uses short, meaningful, sentences, and the third type uses short nonsense sentences.

  1. Digit triplet test for self-screening purposes via telephone and Internet. Languages: Dutch, German, English, Swedish, French.
  2. Sentence test using short, meaningful, sentences, suitable for Internet application. Languages: German, Dutch, English, Swedish, Polish.
  3. Syntactically fixed nonsense sentences, suitable for Internet application. Languages: Swedish, German, Danish, Dutch, English, French.
