How to use this screening test

Plan view of the room View during the test
plan view of the room

  • Imagine you are sitting in the middle of the living room shown in the image on the left (above)

  • There are six different telephones placed in different positions around the room – three to your left, and three to your right.

  • You are listening to the radio, when suddenly a telephone starts ringing

Your tasks

When the test begins, you will see the view of the room from the perspective of a person sitting in the chair in the middle of the room.
Your earphones will allow you to hear the sounds being made by the radio and the telephones in the room.

  • When a telephone rings, you can “look around” the room by using the slider or the arrow keys on your keyboard.
  • The sound will change slightly as you “look around” the room. This should enable you to determine which phone is ringing
  • The test will always start with you facing forwards, in the direction of the television.
  • Once you are able to tell which telephone is ringing, you should click on it to make the selection. The test will automatically continue.
  • This will be repeated 12 times. Overall, lasting approximately 5-7 minutes.
  • The telephone will ring 6 times. If you like, you can select your telephone before the ringing stops. However, after a telephone stops ringing you will need to make a selection in order to continue with the test.
