What you can expect to happen at different NHS appointments

If your GP has decided to refer you to a specialist, you should soon be sent an appointment to visit either your local Audiology department or your local Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department.
You will usually be referred to ENT If your GP feels there may be some underlying medical reason for your hearing difficulty. Conversely, if such a medical reason is not suspected, you will usually be referred to an audiology department. However this is not always the case and often which of these departments you are referred to will simply reflect local referral policy.
